Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium Pot at High Spen is a key tool in raising standards for specific groups of children. Funding is given to target specific pupils who live with families meeting nationally agreed criteria.
Over the past five years the proportion of pupils in our school receiving Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) has grown steadily. We now have approx. 29% of pupils are eligible and have largely been able to retain staff who would otherwise be lost to budget cuts. These staff now have a clear focus on supporting the progress of children in receipt of PPG e.g. running Reading Plus throughout KS2, additional small group phonics sessions in KS1 and focus group and family work in EY. We have also been able to restructure staffing to create dedicated time for key staff to support families in difficulty.
This year, we aim to reintroduce the sessions we have historically run, working with the parents and carers of our youngest children. Our Early Years staff will run fun sessions to explore how pupils can be supported at home to help maximise potential at school.
The report below is the annual document we produce to explain how we choose to invest the Pupil Premium/Recovery Premium we receive and most importantly the impact we are having in supporting children to reach their full potential.
